The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Moldova, Mihai Popșoi, announced the start of the process of denouncing three key agreements that define the rights of the republic within the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS). According to local media, the documents will be reviewed at the first session of the new parliament.

According to Popșoi, the agreements in question are: the CIS Charter, signed on January 22, 1993, in Minsk; the Agreement on the Establishment of the CIS from December 8, 1991, also signed in Minsk; and the Appendix to this agreement from December 22, 1991.

When asked about the consequences of this step for the country, the minister explained that this means the official exit of Moldova from the CIS. "The denunciation of these three fundamental agreements will allow us to legally confirm that the Republic of Moldova is no longer a member of the CIS. Although we have already suspended our participation in practice, legally we remained part of the organization," he added.

Popșoi also noted that the denunciation process has already been initiated. "We recently made this decision, and the documents are currently being coordinated. They will be sent to parliament for a decision. We plan to complete the procedures in the government by mid-February, after which parliament will make the final decision," the minister concluded.

This measure, according to him, clarifies Moldova's legal status in relation to the CIS and is "an important step towards strengthening the country's European integration."
