The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Moldova, Mihai Popșoi, announced on Radio Moldova about the start of the process for the country's withdrawal from the CIS. According to him, documents related to the denunciation of the agreements that formed the basis for Moldova's membership in the CIS are currently in the approval stage. In particular, this concerns the founding agreement and the charter of the Commonwealth.

“Although de facto our participation in the CIS was suspended, legally we still remained a part of it. With the termination of these three key agreements, the Republic of Moldova will officially withdraw from the Commonwealth. The process has already begun, and we recently made this decision,” noted Popșoi.

He added that the initiative to denounce the agreements was undertaken shortly after February 2022, when Russia began military actions in Ukraine. The Foreign Minister believes that many provisions of these agreements have become outdated, and some of them were never implemented.
