During his speech, Ilham Aliyev emphasized that Azerbaijan and Armenia have reached a consensus on ending the military conflict, choosing the path to peaceful coexistence, as reported by Report.
“We could have continued the conflict, but that would have only led to an endless cycle of wars, suffering, and new casualties. Thus, the war would never have ended. Someone had to stop it, and we made the decision to do so,” the president noted.
According to him, this decision to cease hostilities was the result of joint efforts. It is based on agreements reached on August 8, 2025, in Washington during a meeting with Armenian Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan and U.S. President Donald Trump. Aliyev also added that these agreements are already beginning to yield concrete results.
Ilham Aliyev expressed disappointment regarding international organizations that failed to adequately influence the situation during the conflict. In particular, the UN Security Council resolutions demanding the withdrawal of Armenian troops from Nagorno-Karabakh remain unfulfilled. The president also spoke about the transition of relations with Armenia to a phase of cooperation, which includes lifting restrictions on cargo transit and supplying strategically important goods, such as petroleum products, to Yerevan.
