Researchers from Fudan University, located in Shanghai, have introduced an innovative fiber chip capable of processing information similarly to computer systems. This became known through a publication in the "Pengpai" publication.
The scientists developed a complex integrated circuit housed within soft polymer fibers. This microchip consists of several layers organized into a multi-level structure resembling a rolled-up carpet.
Every centimeter of this smart fiber includes about 100,000 transistors, allowing for a level of information processing comparable to some medical implants.
Interestingly, the fiber chip demonstrates its effectiveness even after being tied in knots, washed, or subjected to heavy truck loads, which opens new horizons for the application of this technology.
It is expected that such flexible chips will be actively used in the development of smart clothing, as well as in the fields of neuro-computer interfaces and virtual reality.
