
An investigation has been initiated in China against two high-profile military officials. According to the Ministry of National Defense, under suspicion are Zhang Yuxia, a member of the Politburo of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China and Vice Chairman of the Central Military Commission, as well as Liu Zhenli, a member of the Central Military Commission and Chief of Staff of the Joint Staff of this commission. Both are accused of "serious violations of discipline and law."
Zhang Yuxia, who is 75 years old, holds one of the highest positions in the Chinese military leadership and is one of the few active generals with real combat experience, including participation in the Sino-Vietnamese War of 1979 and the Battle of Laoshan in 1984.
Liu Zhenli, 61 years old, is also a decorated veteran who has achieved the highest military ranks during his career, becoming the youngest general in the history of the PLA, and in 2022 he headed the Joint Staff Department.
