Cooperation between Mongolia and Kazakhstan in the field of free and special economic zones is moving to a new strategic level

During a working visit to Kazakhstan, a delegation led by the Deputy Prime Minister of Mongolia, Gankhuu Khassuur, held an official meeting with Yersain Nagaspaev, the Minister of Industry and Construction of Kazakhstan.

Currently, there are 17 specialized economic zones operating in Kazakhstan, within which 532 industrial projects have been implemented. These projects have generated a total of 11.9 trillion tenge (about $25.3 billion) in production revenue and 656.6 billion tenge (approximately $1.4 billion) in tax revenues to the budget. In addition, the implementation of 337 new investment projects is planned, which confirms the stability and real economic efficiency of special economic zones.

During the meeting, the Kazakh side provided detailed information about the accumulated experience since 2019 in the development of free and special economic zones, including the legal framework, institutional organization, management and operation models, infrastructure plans, investment attraction mechanisms, and public-private partnership implementation, as well as exchanged views on these issues.

The Kazakh side confirmed its openness to Mongolian investors and expressed a desire to create favorable and stable conditions for them both within the special economic zones of Kazakhstan and beyond.

The parties also discussed the possibility of further localization of solutions based on Kazakhstan's successful institutional model and management system to reform the development policy of free and special economic zones in Mongolia.

During the meeting, Deputy Prime Minister of Mongolia Gankhuu Khassuur emphasized the importance of effectively utilizing the opportunities offered by the Eurasian Economic Union to deepen cooperation between the two countries and reduce non-tariff barriers in foreign trade related to projects implemented within the framework of free and special economic zones.

In this context, he proposed to develop cooperation in areas such as standardization, accreditation, and laboratory activities to improve mutual recognition and coordination in conformity assessment.
