The Nigerian National Petroleum Corporation (NNPC) has announced a significant discovery on the Atlantic Ocean shelf, in the area where the Niger River flows into the sea. This information is contained in a press release posted on the company's official website.
According to the company, "NNPC, in collaboration with Chevron Nigeria, has successfully completed drilling the exploratory well Awodi-07, located in the shallow waters of the western part of the Niger Delta. The drilling results are promising, as they confirm the presence of hydrocarbons in several layers of the earth," the statement said.
The work was conducted in the Gulf of Guinea, where water depths reach 12 meters. The well was drilled to a depth of 3.7 kilometers, and several oil-bearing layers with a total thickness of about 205 meters were identified during the drilling.
Company specialists plan to present estimates of the oil reserves contained in the new field in the near future.
