Record number of magnetic storms on Earth occurred in January
According to Kazinform, citing TASS, the magnetic storms in January 2026 were the result of coronal hole activity. The Solar Astronomy Laboratory of the Space Research Institute of the Russian Academy of Sciences and the Institute of Solar-Terrestrial Physics of the Siberian Branch of the Russian Academy of Sciences reported that this month saw a record number of days with magnetic storms, not observed since 2017.
