At a meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh, Deputy Gulnara Baatyrova reported on the serious situation in the field of oncology services.

On February 4, the world observes World Cancer Day. As part of the preparations for this event, a meeting was held on February 3 at the Oncology Center, dedicated to analyzing the problems and current state of the service.

According to Baatyrova, approximately 6,000 new cases of cancer are recorded annually in Kyrgyzstan, including fatal outcomes. Currently, about 35,000 patients are registered in the country.

Cancer ranks second in mortality rates, surpassed only by cardiovascular diseases. Notably, in 40% of cases, the disease is diagnosed at stages 3-4.

The deputy emphasized that the situation with radiation therapy is critical: for 7 million people, 20 linear accelerator machines are needed, but the country has only 3, which often break down. "Moreover, there is a serious problem with the lack of molecular and immunohistochemical diagnostics," she added.

In addition, Baatyrova noted that the country lacks 80 essential medications, and there is a shortage of narcotic analgesics in the field of palliative care.

In conclusion, the deputy proposed to create a research institute based at the Oncology Center to improve the quality of diagnosis and treatment of cancer diseases.
