The Deputy Prime Minister explained the reasons for the authorities' intervention in the activities of restaurants and cafes.
At a recent meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh, Deputy Dastan Bekeshev raised the issue of the Cabinet of Ministers' interference in the work of restaurants, noting that the cancellation of the service charge created problems for businesses.
“I understand your intentions, but the consequences of your actions are such that it is now impossible to revert everything back. Why was intervention necessary — it is unclear to me. Now the restaurant sector is in turmoil due to your innovations. Is it possible to cancel this decision?” — Bekeshev inquired.
In response, the First Deputy Prime Minister Daniyar Amangeldiev emphasized that public catering establishments were not allowed to include the service charge in the price of dishes without the clients' consent.
Amangeldiev explained that these measures were taken to protect consumer rights.
“According to the legislation, the service charge should be provided on a voluntary basis. Including this amount in the bill without the client's consent is unlawful. We simply brought the situation in line with existing legislation,” — he added.
Additionally, the Deputy Prime Minister noted that work is currently underway to monitor prices in the service sector, where a sharp increase is observed. These activities are being conducted in cooperation with antimonopoly authorities.
