At a meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh, the First Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet, Daniyar Amangeldiev, stated that cafes and restaurants did not have the legal right to include a 15 percent service charge in their bills.

According to him, under current legislation, service charges should remain voluntary.

“Some establishments included this amount in their bills, which is a violation. In accordance with its powers, the Cabinet has brought the situation in line with the law. We have conducted the necessary calculations and continue to work with the service sector, which has recently shown a significant increase in prices. The cancellation of the 15 percent charge is aimed at protecting consumer rights,” Amangeldiev emphasized in parliament.

He also noted that the Antimonopoly Service is monitoring the situation regarding price increases in public catering establishments.

However, Deputy Dastan Bekeshev criticized this resolution, claiming that the Cabinet's intervention has exacerbated the situation and negatively affected ordinary citizens. “Now cafes and restaurants are under pressure, and ordinary people will suffer. Perhaps it is worth reconsidering this decision. You would be better off regulating prices on essential products, such as meat and oil,” he added.
