The Ministry of Agriculture of Kyrgyzstan is actively promoting hydroponics — an advanced method that does not require traditional soil for growing plants. This technology is based on the use of nutrient water solutions, which allows for the creation of a controlled environment for crop production. The press service of the ministry notes that the implementation of hydroponics aims at significantly modernizing the agricultural sector and attracting youth to the agricultural business.
One of the key advantages of hydroponics is resource savings. In conditions of water scarcity, this technology allows for a reduction in water consumption by 70-90% compared to traditional farming. Additionally, the method significantly accelerates the vegetative process of plants and guarantees their ecological purity, eliminating the risk of soil pests and diseases. This enables even limited urban spaces to be used for the production of fresh vegetables and greens year-round.
Ministry representatives emphasize that hydroponics is not a temporary measure but a strategic approach to ensuring food security in the country. The Veterinary and Livestock Development Service has already urged farmers to actively adopt resource-efficient technologies. The transition to hydroponic methods can be a response to challenges related to climate change and water resource scarcity, providing Kyrgyz farmers with stable income regardless of weather conditions and land status.
