Uzbekistan has allowed round-the-clock watering of trees with water meters

Changes have occurred in Uzbekistan regarding the care of green spaces located near residential buildings. A presidential decree, adopted on February 5, allows residents of apartment buildings to water trees and shrubs at any time of the day, provided they have a water meter.

This innovation concludes years of discussions about nighttime watering. Previously, the use of drinking water for these purposes was permitted only from midnight to five in the morning, and serious fines were imposed for violating this rule. This regime caused dissatisfaction among residents, as trees suffered from a lack of moisture, even despite the implementation of the "Yashil Makon" program.

Additionally, the new document requires mandatory inventorying of all green spaces in the yards. Management companies will be responsible for this work, and information about each tree and bush will be entered into the digital system Mening uyim. The preservation of saplings is now the responsibility of both utility services and local authorities, as well as the Ecology Committee and the Ministry of Construction.

The state intends to significantly invest in greening yards. In 2026-2027, at least 10% of all allocated funds are planned to be directed towards planting new trees and creating modern irrigation systems.

It is worth noting that the process of easing regulations began at the end of last year. In response to the deterioration of air quality in Tashkent, restrictions for the private sector and businesses were initially lifted. Alongside the implementation of round-the-clock watering, authorities are also considering the installation of special water tanks near high-rise buildings to reduce the load on drinking water supply systems.
