A trend for minute-long TV shows is gaining popularity in Hollywood

The trend for brief TV shows that can be watched while intoxicated at two in the morning is rapidly gaining popularity in Hollywood, as reported by The Guardian.

Plots where conflicts are resolved in mere seconds and dramas that can be wrapped up in just 45 seconds are becoming increasingly popular. According to recent data, interest in vertical dramas designed for smartphone viewing has grown by 8000% per year.

These short yet captivating series, consisting of minute-long episodes, are attracting more and more attention, and Hollywood cannot remain indifferent to this trend.

If you are not yet familiar with vertical dramas, you can be sure that this will change soon. Their popularity has been steadily increasing in recent years, and now they are attracting interest from Hollywood studios.

Last year, Jana Vinograd, who previously worked at Showtime, announced the launch of MicroCo, a studio focused on vertical dramas. She noted that she was surprised by the number of talented professionals willing to collaborate. Just two months prior, Bill Block, the former head of Miramax, founded GammaTime, intending to offer original micro-dramas from CSI creator Anthony E. Zuiker.

“All the Hollywood studios you can imagine are currently involved in or testing such projects,” claims Jen Cooper, a consultant on vertical dramas. “On the Actor’s Access platform, which is designed for casting, 90% of the job postings are related to vertical projects.” Amid stagnation in the entertainment industry, vertical dramas are becoming one of the few areas with real growth: last year, Deadline reported an 8000% increase in revenue in this segment compared to the previous year.
