On March 8, Iranian President Masoud Pezeshkian contacted Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev by phone. This conversation took place against the backdrop of sharp criticism from Aliyev towards Tehran, who referred to the recent drone attack on Nakhchivan as a terrorist act and accused Iran of being involved in this incident.

In response, Iranian authorities stated their non-involvement in the attack and pointed to Israel as the true culprit.

According to the state agency AZERTAJ, during the conversation, "Aliyev once again expressed condolences regarding the civilian casualties in Iran in recent days."

The President of Azerbaijan also emphasized the need to investigate the incident in Nakhchivan and discussed with Pezeshkian the prospects for joint economic projects. Earlier, Baku made the decision to completely withdraw its diplomatic corps from Iran.

The Iranian leader reiterated that the "airstrike on Nakhchivan" has nothing to do with his country and promised to conduct a thorough investigation.
