During the conversation, Pezeshkian also expressed gratitude to Aliyev for the condolences he offered regarding the passing of Ayatollah Ali Khamenei. In response, the President of Azerbaijan expressed his condolences regarding the tragic events in Iran, which resulted in the deaths of many citizens.
It is worth noting that on March 5, Iranian drones struck near the airport and close to an educational institution in the suburbs of Nakhchivan, resulting in injuries to four people. Ilham Aliyev characterized this act as a terrorist attack. Later, the State Security Service of Azerbaijan reported that the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps planned to carry out a series of terrorist acts on the territory of the country, which led to the announcement of a complete withdrawal of the diplomatic mission from Iran.
For their part, Iranian authorities deny any involvement in this incident, and Masoud Pezeshkian described such accusations as rumors and a "conspiracy of enemies."
