Ilham Aliyev: Russian strikes affected the embassy and infrastructure of Azerbaijan in Ukraine

President Ilham Aliyev elaborated on three incidents that occurred near the Azerbaijani embassy in Kyiv in July, August, and November 2025. Initially, Baku perceived the first case as an accident and provided the Russian authorities with the coordinates of all its diplomatic facilities, including consulates and cultural centers. However, according to the president, the subsequent strikes became a "deliberate attack on the diplomatic representation" of Azerbaijan.

Aliyev also reported on the damage sustained by Azerbaijani infrastructure in Ukraine, particularly the energy facilities of the state oil company SOCAR, which are strategically important for gas supplies from Azerbaijan. Earlier, the Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs reported significant damage to the embassy building from a strike by an Iskander-type missile, although there were no casualties, although several employees were injured.

The president emphasized that Azerbaijan is responding to the incidents exclusively through diplomatic channels. In particular, the Russian ambassador was summoned to the Azerbaijani Ministry of Foreign Affairs, and relevant diplomatic notes and statements were sent.

The Russian side denied the accusations of deliberate attacks. The Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs stated that the damage to the Azerbaijani diplomatic complex in Kyiv could have been the result of a malfunction in Ukrainian air defense systems, possibly caused by a Patriot missile. After the incident on November 14, the Russian foreign ministry expressed regret over the damage to the embassy building.

Aliyev characterized the events as a "hostile act" against Azerbaijan and noted that the country's government has taken all necessary diplomatic measures.
