On March 10, Iran denied the claims of U.S. Energy Secretary Chris Wright that an American oil tanker was under the protection of U.S. military forces while passing through the Strait of Hormuz, reports Anadolu Agency.
Sardar Naeini, a representative of the Revolutionary Guard, emphasized in an interview with the state television channel IRIB: “In times of war, no U.S. vessel will be able to approach the Sea of Oman, the Persian Gulf, or the Strait of Hormuz.”
Naeini also noted that Iran would take measures to block any actions by the U.S. fleet and its allies during its missile operations.
Earlier, Wright posted on social media that the Navy successfully escorted an oil tanker through the Strait of Hormuz.
In his message, the minister stated that President Donald Trump “is contributing to stability in the global energy market during military actions against Iran” and that the Navy has guaranteed the continuity of oil supplies to global markets.
However, this post was soon deleted without any explanation.
The Strait of Hormuz has become a key focus in the energy market since Iran announced its closure for transit on February 28 amid attacks from the U.S. and Israel.
About 20 million barrels of oil pass through this strategically important route every day, and its blockade has already led to an increase in oil prices.
The escalation of the situation in the region occurred against the backdrop of a joint U.S. and Israeli operation against Iran, resulting in over 1,200 deaths and 10,000 injuries since February 28.
Iran responded with drone and missile strikes targeting sites in Israel, Jordan, Iraq, and in the Persian Gulf, where U.S. military bases are located.
Iran: The Strait of Hormuz will be a punishment for war instigators
Ali Larijani, Secretary of the Supreme National Security Council of Iran, commented on the country's decision to close the Strait of Hormuz to vessels associated with the U.S. and Israel.
In his post on the social media platform owned by the American company X, Larijani stated: “The Strait of Hormuz will either be a symbol of peace and prosperity for all or a place of defeat and suffering for those who instigate war.”
The post refuting the U.S. claim about the Navy escorting the oil tanker through the Strait of Hormuz first appeared on the K-News website.
