- In Kazakhstan, AI-based defectoscopy for overhead power lines is being actively implemented using unmanned aerial vehicles. As reported on January 5 by the press service of the Ministry of Energy, this innovation is already yielding results.

According to the ministry, computer vision and machine learning technologies enable the automatic detection of defects on poles and wires, as well as the identification of overheating, deformations, and other potential threats, using data obtained from 4K cameras, thermal imagers, and lidar systems.

The Ministry of Energy plans to expand the classifiers of defects used in AI defectoscopy by 2026 and transition from pilot projects to mass implementation.
