At a briefing held on February 13 in Bishkek, Azamat Mambetov, Deputy Minister of Emergency Situations, reported that the accuracy of forecasts by the meteorological service has increased to 96%.

Meteorologists are currently making forecasts for various timeframes: seven, five, three, and one day. As the event approaches, the accuracy of predictions increases.

To improve the work of the hydrometeorological service, the Ministry of Emergency Situations has conducted a complete modernization of the observation system. Since 2007, the agency has been actively updating equipment, replacing outdated manual weather stations with automated ones. Currently, there are 135 automated weather stations operating in the country.

Mambetov also noted that in 1985, there were 85 weather stations operating in Kyrgyzstan, which marked the peak of hydrometeorology development. However, by 2007, when Kyrgyzhydromet was integrated into the Ministry of Emergency Situations, only 33 stations remained. The modernization was carried out with the involvement of grants and loans from various financial institutions and donor organizations.

In addition to weather stations, hydrological posts have also been updated—points that measure the volume of water resources in formation zones. Currently, there are 98 hydrological posts operating in the country, which allows for accurate determination of the volume of incoming water into irrigation and energy networks.

Kyrgyzhydromet is engaged in forecasting river flow, as well as precipitation in the form of rain and snow, which become water resources for reservoirs and hydroelectric power stations. These forecasts form the basis for planning activities in the fields of irrigation, agriculture, and energy.
