The seminar held on March 27 in the city of Osh was organized by the Ministry of Natural Resources as part of the strategic project "Implementation of the National Biosafety Mechanism in the Kyrgyz Republic." Its goal was to create guidelines for the handling of genetically modified organisms (GMOs) in the context of the Cartagena Protocol.

As reported by the ministry's press service, the seminar emphasized cooperation among various stakeholders: government agencies, scientific institutions, experts, as well as farmers and agricultural producers.

During the discussions, participants focused on mechanisms that allow for monitoring the import and use of seed material, which will help minimize the risks of uncontrolled spread of GMOs.

In addition, significant attention was paid to socio-economic issues and raising environmental awareness among the population, which is part of the ministry's long-term plan.
