In some rural areas of Kyrgyzstan, functioning libraries are, in fact, not operational. Deputy Rustambek uulu stated at a meeting of the Committee of the Jogorku Kenesh on Science that local residents often find libraries closed when they want to read.

Deputy Minister of Culture Marat Tagaev confirmed that there are indeed libraries in rural areas, but the ministry conducted an analysis which showed that many of them do not function properly, and librarians are merely receiving salaries. In this regard, it is planned to merge these libraries with school libraries, which operate more effectively.

Rustambek uulu supported the proposed initiative, emphasizing that many rural libraries exist only on paper, while school libraries actively fulfill their functions.

The deputy also raised the issue of a possible salary increase for school librarians, as they work closely with educators. He suggested considering the possibility of additional payment for their work.

Deputy Minister of Finance Zhibek Duyisheva noted that a salary increase is planned.
