The problem of teacher shortages affects both public and private schools, said Rahat Musaeva, the director of the Department of Education, during a meeting of the permanent commission of the Bishkek City Council on economics, budget, finance, and investments on February 6.

At the meeting, deputy Ramina Idyrova from the "Adilet" faction raised the issue of the serious shortage of teachers and inquired about what measures are planned to be taken in 2026 to improve the situation.

She emphasized that many parents prefer to send their children to private schools and kindergartens due to the absence of certain subjects in public educational institutions, which is caused by the lack of teachers.

According to her, within the framework of five lessons a day, only two can be conducted, as some classes are inevitably absent.

Rahat Musaeva also reported that this year the deposit amount for young teachers has been doubled—from 7.7 million soms to 13 million 190.9 thousand soms, which serves as an additional incentive to attract educators.

“The city mayor held meetings with university rectors, resulting in a signed memorandum. Under this agreement, 384 final-year students are combining their studies with work in schools, undergoing dual training. Currently, the shortage of staff amounts to about 400 teachers in both public and private institutions,” Musaeva added.
