On January 22, the Jogorku Kenesh initiated a public discussion on a draft law concerning amendments to the law "On State Awards, Honorary Titles, and State Prizes of the Kyrgyz Republic."

Deputy Toktobubu Ashymbaeva, who proposed the initiative, noted that the main goal of the draft law is to elevate the status of the teaching profession.

As part of the proposed project, a new honorary title "People's Teacher of the Kyrgyz Republic" is being introduced.

As the author explained, this title previously existed: in 2001, it was included in the law on honorary titles, but in 2017, when a new law on state awards was adopted, the title "People's Teacher" was excluded. From its existence from 2001 to 2017, 25 individuals were awarded this title, and today only 7 holders remain.

The draft law proposes to amend Article 2 by adding a new item to the list of first-category honorary titles — "People's Teacher of the Kyrgyz Republic."

The justification for the draft law also indicates that its implementation will require additional financial resources from the state budget. According to the government resolution, allowances for the titles "People's" and "Honored" will be provided to social sector workers if their activities correspond to the profile of these titles.
