In a critical situation, the animal decided to pretend to be dead.
“Our village is located on the border with Kazakhstan. Foxes and jackals are common inhabitants of the surrounding fields and forest belts. With the onset of winter cold, they often come into the yards of local residents in search of food,” a local resident shared.
“I went out into the yard and noticed the tracks of the fox, deciding to follow them. As soon as the animal sensed my presence, it tried to escape, but I had already closed off all possible exits in the fence. The fox, realizing the hopelessness of the situation, suddenly lay down, pretending to be dead,” Nikolai added.
“I was surprised by its behavior—I didn’t intend to kill it, I just wanted to take a closer look. I opened the gate and stepped back, and as soon as it came to, the fox dashed towards the exit,” he shared.
Foxes are found everywhere in Kyrgyzstan.
“However, their life in the wild is full of concerns about safety and finding food. They skillfully cope with difficulties, using their cunning and resourcefulness. The fox truly deserves its reputation as a trickster—as this case shows, it is capable of deceiving sparrows, dogs, and even humans by pretending to be dead,” noted ecologist Alexander Sosnovsky.
