In the village of Boroldoy, located in the Kemin district, a rare snow leopard climbed a tree near the home of a local resident. Later, it was successfully removed with the help of specialists.

According to information from AKIpress, the wild predator was discovered on the night of December 30, when it was sitting on an oak tree. A video captured how the leopard was caught by covering it with a net and placing it in a cage.

According to the Ministry of Natural Resources, employees of the Chon-Kemin State Natural Park and a hunter arrived at the scene promptly to safely lower the animal from the tree.

Tilek Beishebaev, a resident of Boroldoy, recounted that the first report of the leopard came on December 29 around 9 PM. “One guy noticed it in the evening when the dogs started barking. He got in his car and saw the animal crossing the road. It was a snow leopard with a long tail. My acquaintance immediately called and said, ‘Tilek, I saw a leopard, it’s walking through the streets of our village,’” Beishebaev recalls.

After that, Beishebaev sent a message in the village residents' group chat: “Be careful, a snow leopard has entered the village, it was seen on the upper streets.” He also set out to search along with other locals. “We combed the streets, gardens, and yards for about one and a half to two hours. Eventually, we saw that the animal had climbed a tree. We started taking photos and videos, and residents from neighboring villages, Zhol-Bulak and Kichi-Kemin, joined us. To avoid scaring the leopard, I immediately informed the relevant authorities by calling ‘102’. All services arrived at the scene. We also contacted the Chon-Kemin National Park and the NABU organization. Their specialists left the city around 1 AM, and a special group arrived around 4 AM,” he added.
According to Beishebaev, residents waited until four in the morning, not allowing the animal to come down. “The group of specialists did not have firearms—only tranquilizers. One guy, Zhyldyzbek from Kichi-Kemin, initially couldn’t use the medication correctly, but then climbed the tree and made an injection from about a meter away. The leopard growled and climbed even higher. We were told that the effect should manifest in 10 minutes. We waited, but after 30 minutes, the animal still hadn’t fallen asleep,” he explains.

The situation required action. Zhyldyzbek and another local resident named Ular fashioned a lasso and, after half an hour, managed to throw a loop over the animal's head, while 20-30 young people removed a net from the soccer goal and prepared below. When we pulled the rope, the leopard jumped down and fell to the ground. We immediately covered it with a net and secured it. The NABU representatives had a special cage, into which we placed the animal. An examination showed that the snow leopard was in good condition; it was an adult female. In conclusion, we officially handed over the animal to the representatives of NABU and the Kemin Forestry. All actions were legal,” Tilek Beishebaev summarized.
