Torobaev's speech at the Global Summit on Sustainable Development Goals
Deputy Prime Minister Bakyt Torobaev emphasized the vulnerability of mountain ecosystems in the face of climate change at the Global Summit. This information was provided by the government's press service.
According to Torobaev, glacier melting, changes in precipitation, and an increase in extreme weather events pose long-term threats to agriculture, water resources, and energy, both in Central Asia and beyond.
He called for mountain countries and regions to be regarded as special zones for sustainable development, granting them priority access to climate financing, adaptation technologies, and monitoring systems.
Bakyt Torobaev also noted that the resilience of mountain areas directly affects the food and water security of millions of people, which requires comprehensive and coordinated international solutions.
