The city of Uzgen is preparing for significant changes. As part of the strategy until 2026, the construction of new educational institutions, improvement of the security system, updating of road infrastructure, and implementation of a unified design code are planned.

The mayor of Uzgen, Eldos Taev, shared details of current projects and plans for urban development with a correspondent from Turmush.

Social Infrastructure: Educational Institutions

Uzgen is a densely populated city, and the issue of a shortage of educational places is becoming increasingly relevant. As part of current activities, the following is planned based on eight existing schools:

Renovation: Under the "ERIK" program, two schools will undergo major renovations.

New Construction: A new school for 500 students is being built in the Jany-Ozgon area.

Preschool Education: At the beginning of the year, one kindergarten was opened, and another one for 100 places is expected to open in mid-March at the Lenin School, while construction of a similar institution at the Babur School continues.

Sports: The newest sports hall has already been put into operation.

All these facilities are planned to be completed before the start of the new school year.

Road Infrastructure and Lighting

This year, special attention is being paid to the asphalting of both central and secondary streets:

Plans for this year: It is expected that 10 kilometers of roads will be asphalted (4 kilometers funded by the city budget, 5–6 kilometers with the support of relevant ministries). For comparison, last year 5 kilometers were repaired.

Priority Areas: Lenin, Amir-Temir, Malabaev, Mukimi streets, and others.

Safety and Lighting: Modern lighting has already been installed on the Bishkek–Osh highway, as well as on Manas, Mukimi, and Gagarin streets. Work continues on Amir-Temir and Malabaev streets.

Master Plan and Demographic Situation

The master plan for the city, covering an area of 1080 hectares, is in the final stages of development.

Prospects: The plan is designed for 20–25 years.

Forecast: If current growth rates are maintained, the population of Uzgen may increase to 120,000 people over the specified period.

Safe City Project

To ensure law and order, the mayor's office has purchased 60 video cameras.

“These modern cameras will cover up to 70% of the city’s territory, ensuring control over traffic and the safety of pedestrians and schoolchildren, as well as helping to solve crimes,” noted Eldos Taev. The system's base will be located in the Uzgen Department of Internal Affairs building.

Urban Development and Fight Against Illegal Constructions

The city is carrying out comprehensive work to clean up the areas:

Demolition of Structures: 35 illegally built structures have been demolished on the territory of the district hospital.

Return of Land: The Salidjan Sharipov School has had plots returned that previously housed 9 trading points.

Environmental Safety: A special commission monitors the condition of mudflow channels and ditches to prevent emergencies.

Design Code: A unified style for the design of building facades and commercial facilities is being implemented, contributing to the creation of a harmonious appearance for the city.

Recreation Areas and Cultural Initiatives

N. Aznabaev Park: The main city park, covering 8.5 hectares, is expecting its first major reconstruction in 20 years. The project is supported by the World Bank and an international organization, which have allocated about 300 million soms. New green areas, irrigation systems, and playgrounds will be created here.

Attractions: A pedestrian suspension bridge between the stadium and the park is already in operation and has become popular among tourists.

Leisure: The central stadium has been completely renovated, and the "Aychurek" cinema has been opened.

Utilities and Ecology

Sewage: Wastewater treatment facilities have been launched in Uzgen. 4,000 subscribers are connected to the central system, and the system's capacity allows for an additional 20,000 users to be connected.

Landfill: An area of 6.5 hectares has been completely fenced and improved thanks to a grant of 50,000 dollars from an NGO.
