The editorial team of Kaktus.media decided to check the situation at the final stop. Getting there proved to be difficult: we waited about 45 minutes at the Alamudinsky market stop without seeing a bus, and ultimately took a taxi for 394 soms, during which we were jolted around on some sections of the road.
Current conditions at the final stop
Upon arrival, we found that the final stop is merely a muddy place where any vehicle can get stuck. There are no signs or canopies indicating the stop. The roads are in terrible condition not only at the final stop but also along the entire Route 71, except for the last one and a half kilometers, where the road condition is somewhat acceptable. When, at last, a bus arrived at the final stop, we spoke with the driver, who reported that only four buses are in operation. On weekends, the transport does not run, as it is almost empty during that time—there are no schoolchildren, and the fuel costs, considering the poor road conditions, do not justify going out on the route.
Drivers' difficulties on the battered roads
The bus driver mentioned that navigating such streets has become nearly impossible. Some sections of the route resemble "shingles." Road repairs are carried out only sporadically. In trying to avoid one pothole, the driver invariably encounters another, leading to severe jolting in the bus. "Such vibrations can shatter the windows in the cabin, and the vehicle's suspension suffers. Road repairs would be a real gift," he noted, adding that in case of a breakdown, he would have to cover the repair costs out of his own pocket. For instance, a cracked window could cost around 25,000 soms, and equipment often breaks down under such conditions.
