Kurmanbek Zhantaev, a resident of the village of Kayyndy-Bulak in the Ak-Talinsky district of the Naryn region, has been engaged in the production of biohumus for over 15 years.

“I grow apples, apricots, currants, raspberries, and other fruits in my garden. Realizing that organic fertilizer is essential for their growth, I started producing biohumus. We use it for our own needs, and sell the excess. The price is 25 soms per kilogram, and we offer a discount to wholesalers — 20 soms. The main advantage of biohumus is the absence of the risk of overheating plants and other problems,” he said.

In addition, Zhantaev sells worms at a price of 300 soms per kilogram.

“Worms are used to produce biohumus. If using manure, 30-40 tons are required per hectare, while for biohumus, only 2 tons are needed for the same area. Biohumus is also of interest to flower enthusiasts,” he added.

Kurmanbek shared a method for protecting worms in winter:

“Depending on the amount of manure collected over the year, you need to dig a pit 160-170 centimeters deep and more than one and a half meters wide. We place the manure there and then add the worms. It is important to maintain constant moisture in the pit; otherwise, the worms may die. In high temperatures, we cover the pit. If the soil starts to dry out, it is necessary to add water. Insulation will also be required. The volume of biohumus we obtain depends on the number of worms: the more there are, the faster the process goes. In winter, the pit should be covered with a layer of manure 40 centimeters thick, as it will retain heat and protect the worms from the cold.”

K. Zhantaev also noted that he has been growing raspberries for over 20 years.

“I planted raspberries back in Soviet times, when I had just gotten married. Since then, I have continued. The harvest is good — we sell berries and jam, but we do not calculate the sales volumes for the season. We do not go to the market: our regular customers know where to find us. Raspberries propagate themselves, but they need to be regularly watered and pruned. Without proper care, there will be no harvest. Additionally, I sell raspberry seedlings for 15-20 soms,” he shares.
