On January 12, 2026, during a meeting of the Agrarian Committee of the Jogorku Kenesh, deputies discussed the issue of the condition of Bekkari pits intended for the burial of biological waste in various regions, including the city of Osh.
Santalat Amanova, a deputy, noted that the pit in Osh was built about 70 years ago and is now overflowing. She pointed out that this facility does not meet modern requirements, leading to waste often being disposed of in inappropriate places. Amanova called on the Ministry of Agriculture, in collaboration with local authorities, to conduct the necessary calculations and organize comprehensive measures to prevent sanitary problems both in Osh and in other regions.
Deputy Minister of Agriculture Zhanibek Kerimaliev emphasized the importance of the Bekkari pits and reported that there are design solutions available in the ministry. He added that it is necessary to isolate the filled facilities and create new sites in alternative locations. Kerimaliev also mentioned that work to improve the epizootic situation is being carried out in cooperation with the Veterinary Service and is funded from the state budget.
Director of the Veterinary Service and Animal Husbandry Development Adilet Sotovaldiyev confirmed that there is a shortage of such facilities; however, he announced plans for a phased transition to cremation instead of creating new Bekkari pits. As an example, he cited the Issyk-Kul region, where, according to him, four crematoria are functioning, acquired through the Issyk-Kul Development Fund in the districts of Jeti-Oguz and Ton.

A biothermal pit (Bekkari pit) is a facility for the disposal of animal carcasses. It should be constructed according to standard designs on a dry elevated site with a low groundwater level (no more than 2.5 m from the surface at maximum level) and located at least 1 km away from populated areas, water sources, wells, and grazing areas.
