- At the meeting of the Committee of the Jogorku Kenesh on Agricultural Policy on January 12, 2026, Deputy Santalat Amanova inquired about how well the slaughterhouses in Kyrgyzstan meet established requirements.

According to Deputy Minister of Agriculture Zhanibek Kerimaliev, there are slaughterhouses in the republic that fully comply with veterinary and sanitary standards. However, he noted that there are also those that do not meet the requirements — these are being closed by the Veterinary Service.

Santalat Amanova urged the Ministry of Agriculture to work more actively in this direction, collaborating with the PPP Center and entrepreneurs to increase the number of compliant slaughterhouses.

Additionally, the deputy inquired about the number of anthrax outbreaks in Kyrgyzstan.

Director of the Veterinary and Animal Husbandry Development Service Adilet Sotovaldiyev reported that there are 567 registered anthrax outbreaks in the country, of which 560, according to his data, have been completely eliminated with local budget funds.

Nevertheless, the deputy expressed disagreement with this assessment, noting that the situation remains tense and one of the reasons for this is the presence of Bekari pits. "The outbreaks may be closed, but not completely," she added.

A biothermal pit (Bekari pit) is a facility for the disposal of animal carcasses. It is built according to standard designs and is located on a dry elevated area with a low groundwater level (no more than 2.5 m from the ground surface) at least 1 km away from populated areas, water bodies, wells, and livestock drives (source).
