At a meeting of the Committee of the Jogorku Kenesh on agricultural policy, water resources, and ecology, the First Deputy Minister of Water Resources, Agriculture, and Processing Industry of Kyrgyzstan, Zhanibek Kerimaliev, reported significant progress in ensuring the country’s food security. Currently, Kyrgyzstan is capable of independently providing itself with six out of nine key products.

Kerimaliev noted that just a few years ago, the republic could guarantee only three of these nine products. “Now we have reached a level of self-sufficiency in six products, which is an unprecedented achievement for our country. Next, we intend to take a step toward ensuring the seventh product — vegetable oil. This requires a focus on cultivating oilseed crops,” he added.

In response to deputies' questions about the distribution of loans in the agricultural sector, the deputy minister emphasized that in recent years, the Ministry of Water Resources and Agriculture has changed its approach to lending, moving from a quantitative to a qualitative one. “Previously, loans were issued without a clear plan and control. However, over the past four years, we have started issuing loans with specific goals, which contributes to growth in livestock breeding, milk production, and other sectors,” concluded Zhanibek Kerimaliev.
