Initiators demand to get rid of the Soviet legacy
Calls for changing the names of districts in the capital Bishkek and canceling the celebration of "February 23" have intensified on social media. This initiative has attracted attention and sparked heated debates among citizens.
User Urmat Janabaev expressed the opinion that "February 23 and the Soviet names of the districts of Bishkek should be forgotten and sent to the dustbin of history."
It is worth noting that earlier the issue of renaming districts such as Lenin, Pervomaisky, Oktyabrsky, and Sverdlovsky was raised by deputies of the Jogorku Kenesh and participants of the People's Kurultai.
The holiday "February 23" in the country, like International Women's Day on March 8, is traditionally celebrated as Defender of the Fatherland Day.
