Biography of Brigitte Bardot
Brigitte Anne-Marie Bardot became one of the most famous actresses in European cinema in the 20th century. The film "And God Created Woman" from 1956 brought her international fame and became a pivotal moment in her career. Over 21 years in the film industry, she appeared in more than 45 films, including "The Truth" and "Contempt." In the 1970s, the actress ended her film career and became known as an animal rights activist and founder of a charitable foundation.
Bardot's fame grew in the 1950s and 60s due to her free-spirited acting style and sexual appeal. After retiring in the 1970s, she moved to Saint-Tropez and dedicated her life to animal protection, founding her own foundation.
Bardot's career began on the runway, but she soon stepped into the world of cinema. At 16, she was invited to audition for a film by Marc Allegret, where, although she did not get the role, she met 22-year-old Roger Vadim, with whom she immediately fell in love.
Despite her parents' protests, who planned to send her to London, Brigitte threatened to commit suicide, which forced them to relent and allow her to marry upon reaching adulthood. On December 21, 1952, the couple was married at the Notre-Dame de Grâce de Passy church in Paris.
In 2023, when she was offered a series about her life, Bardot was surprised by the public's interest and wrote a letter asking to be left alone at her estate in Saint-Tropez. She remains one of the brightest icons of French cinema.
