At a meeting of the Jogorku Kenesh, a draft law was discussed that proposes allowing citizens of Kyrgyzstan to cultivate 15 types of medicinal herbs. This became a topic of discussion within the framework of changes to legislation concerning the protection and use of the plant world, as well as the development of agriculture.

As reported by the First Deputy Minister of Water Management and Agriculture, Zhanibek Kerimaliev, the list includes herbs such as valerian, calendula, sage, saffron, ferula, aconite, arnebia, rhodiola rosea, licorice, sea buckthorn, rosehip, barberry, thyme, chamomile, and St. John's wort.

He also noted that there is a high demand for ferula, which encourages people to grow this plant for sale at home. Prices for ferula range from $200 to $500 per kilogram, making this business quite profitable. In the Batken region, three plots are already engaged in the cultivation of ferula using drip irrigation.

Deputy Zhyldyz Sadyrova suggested considering the possibility of expanding the list of medicinal plants rather than limiting it to just 15 species.

Kamila Talieva, her colleague, expressed concern that aconite, which is a toxic plant, is included in the list. "Allowing its cultivation at home could lead to poisonings, which is absolutely unacceptable. There needs to be separate regulation for such plants," she emphasized.
