In the Lenin district of Bishkek, preparations for the celebration of Nowruz began with the preparation of sumolek, initiated by the 102nd municipal territorial administration.

According to traditions, before starting the main dish of Nowruz, boorsoks were first baked.

Women in elechek, pronouncing good wishes and receiving blessings, began to lay the ingredients for sumolek in the cauldron.

After adding the pre-prepared juice of sprouted wheat and mixing them, according to custom, 41 stones are placed at the bottom of the cauldron.

As told by Bishkek resident Kyialbyubu Alymbaeva, before cooking sumolek, the wheat must be sprouted. On the day of preparation, it is crushed and the juice is squeezed out. Dried fruits are also added during the process, and stones are placed at the bottom.

Sumolek is boiled for 12 hours, after which it is covered and left for 4–5 hours, and only after that can it be opened.

“Each time, while adding ingredients and performing any work, wishes are pronounced. People wish for peace, prosperity, sufficiency, and abundance,” she noted.
The head of the 102nd municipal territorial administration of the Lenin district, Anarkul Kasymova, reported that this is their first experience in boiling sumolek for their house.

“Today is a special day for us. We are excited and hope to continue this tradition annually, teaching young girls this craft,” Kasymova added.
It is worth noting that other regions of the country are also actively preparing sumolek for the Nowruz holiday.

Don't forget that on March 21, Nowruz will be celebrated at the republican level in Naryn, where the "Best Sumolek" competition will take place, with representatives from all districts of the Naryn region participating. 40 cauldrons of sumolek will be boiled, and the winner will receive a prize of 100,000 soms, second place will get 50,000 soms, and third place will receive 30,000 soms.
