In 2026, as part of the Resiland project, the construction and restoration of structures for protection against mudflows will begin in four regions of Kyrgyzstan. This was reported by the press service of the Ministry of Emergency Situations.
According to the provided data, the project covers 21 sites in the Issyk-Kul, Osh, Naryn, and Jalal-Abad regions. It is expected that the new engineering structures will provide protection for approximately 12,000 residential houses, 10,000 hectares of agricultural land, as well as roads, bridges, power lines, schools, and kindergartens.
The construction work will include the erection of dams, spur dikes, retaining walls, and mudflow diversion channels, which will direct and weaken the force of mudflows, thereby reducing the risk of destruction.
The implementation of the project is planned to begin on the rivers Kugart, Aravan-Say, Gulcha, and At-Bashi, including the sites "Zhygach-Korgon-1," "Zhygach-Korgon-2," Pakhta-Tobo, as well as protective dams in Gulcha and Ottuk.
Before the start of construction work, hydrological studies were conducted, which confirmed the effectiveness of the proposed engineering solutions for protecting settlements and infrastructure. The project includes a comprehensive protection system that takes into account the terrain, riverbeds, and the potential strength of mudflows.
