Freedom of speech in Kyrgyzstan discussed by the Minister of Culture and an OSCE representative
In Vienna (Austria), a meeting took place between Mirbek Mambetaliev, the head of the Ministry of Culture, Information, Sports, and Youth Policy of Kyrgyzstan, and Jan Bratu, an OSCE representative dealing with media freedom issues. This information was provided by the ministry's press service.

During the discussion, the participants focused on the current state of the media industry in Kyrgyzstan, as well as key issues related to freedom of expression.

The Minister confirmed that the republic is committed to its international obligations regarding freedom of speech, emphasizing the need to maintain a balance between media freedom and responsibility for the dissemination of information, as stated in the press release.

Additionally, topics such as digital transformation, combating disinformation, and improving professional standards and media literacy were discussed.

The meeting also highlighted legislative initiatives, journalist safety, and the development of cooperation with the OSCE, including expert support, training programs, and the exchange of best practices.
