"The choice in favor of public transport should be automatic"
The mayor of the capital, Aibek Junushaliev, expressed his opinion in a recent interview about the need to raise parking fees in the center of Bishkek after the completion of road repairs and the construction of interchanges.
He noted: "We are not just expanding roads, but acting in accordance with the master plan, not aiming to increase the number of cars. Many streets are already built up with houses that extend beyond established boundaries. In the future, after the work is completed, certain restrictions will need to be introduced. For example, the proposal to ban car entry on even and odd days has elicited mixed reactions, and society will need time to adapt to such changes. In this regard, raising parking fees in the city center becomes a necessary step. We must ensure that using public transport becomes a natural choice for residents," Junushaliev emphasized.
