Bishkek Master Plan 2050. Will there be cable cars, highways, and multi-level parking?

During the public hearings on the Master Plan for the development of Bishkek until 2050, residents expressed their ideas about the construction of cable cars, highways, and multi-level parking. Local authorities provided comments on each of the proposals.

Regarding highways, the city hall confirmed that this proposal would be considered in future plans.
In response to a question about the cable car, city hall representatives indicated that this mode of transport cannot replace traditional ground or underground transport systems. It is effective in cases where significant heights or obstacles need to be overcome, where the construction of other transport routes is economically unfeasible.

Residents also suggested that developers create multi-level parking in each district. They argued that such structures take up less space and require less investment compared to shopping centers or residential buildings, as they mainly consist of concrete frames. One resident referred to Chicago, with its population of about 10 million, where, according to him, multi-level parking in each district, accommodating up to a thousand cars, helps avoid traffic jams and frees streets from unauthorized parking.

In response, the city hall explained that the Master Plan includes only large multi-level parking lots located near places of mass gathering, such as markets. The issue of parking within courtyards goes beyond the Master Plan and should be addressed at the stage of developing project documentation.

Additionally, the Master Plan proposes to consider the possibility of constructing multi-level parking within walking distance from neighborhoods with high-density development. It also emphasizes the need to strictly adhere to regulations regarding the placement of parking in new residential areas, maintaining a balance between green spaces, playgrounds, and other public areas.

In conclusion, the city hall noted that Bishkek plans to preserve all existing parks and historical monuments, as well as increase the area of green spaces in the city.
