During public hearings dedicated to the General Plan for the development of Bishkek until 2050, residents of the capital proposed to make Moscow and Pushkin streets pedestrian-only. In response to this initiative, comments were provided by the city hall.
Municipality representatives noted that Moscow Street is an important one-way thoroughfare that operates in conjunction with Toktogul Street. Closing Moscow Street to vehicles could negatively impact the traffic situation in the city center, as it would lead to a redistribution of traffic flow and increase the load on alternative routes.
On the other hand, Pushkin Street could potentially be transformed into a pedestrian zone; however, this decision requires coordination with the Bishkek city hall, the agency emphasized.
