The current issues faced by healthcare workers in Kyrgyzstan were discussed at a press conference held by the Chairman of the Professional Union of Healthcare Workers, Sultan Abdyldaev.

He emphasized that the main difficulties for medical professionals are low wages and overwork due to staff shortages, which leads to professional burnout.

“These factors create significant stress in the medical system. One solution could be to increase salaries and improve the status of healthcare workers. We are hopeful for the promised 100% salary increase starting from April 1, 2026,” Abdyldaev noted.

Additionally, he cited examples of violence against medical personnel, as well as pressure from independent bloggers. He expressed hope that tightening punishments for such actions would help ensure the protection of healthcare workers' rights.

Sultan Abdyldaev also pointed out that there is a problem of insufficient funding in the healthcare sector, making it impossible to have lawyers or safety specialists in every organization.

“Therefore, this year our main task will be to enhance the legal and labor knowledge of trade union committees and primary organizations. This will help them promptly address issues within their teams, including unlawful dismissals, improper administrative measures, payroll errors, as well as matters concerning the provision of special clothing and personal protective equipment. We aim for these issues to be resolved at the team level, avoiding court disputes, which in turn will prevent negative impacts on work and protect the interests of patients and the budget,” he concluded.
