At the meeting of the "Mekenchil" parliamentary group today, Member of the Jogorku Kenesh Mahabat Mavlyanova raised an important issue regarding the illegal import of seedlings into Kyrgyzstan that do not undergo phytosanitary control.

She noted that the smuggling of planting material could lead to the spread of pests and diseases. The deputy addressed a representative of the Ministry of Agriculture with a question about the presence of control in this area.

Deputy Minister of Agriculture Zhanibek Kerimaliev responded that their department is working to improve the situation and is increasing the number of nurseries.

“Recently, we have increased the number of nurseries. Our phytosanitary inspection is also conducting checks at border posts,” he reported.

Mavlyanova also emphasized that the problem is not limited to seedlings but also affects the circulation of chemicals in the regions.

“Chemical products are sold in cities and villages without certificates, and their packaging is in Chinese without translation. At the same time, there is a lack of qualified specialists on the ground,” she added, suggesting that control be strengthened at the level of local self-government.
