At a meeting of the "Mekenchil" parliamentary group, Umbetaly Kydyraliev, a member of parliament, raised the question of how reasonable it is to bring trams back to Bishkek.

He noted that the general plan for the capital, which is projected until 2050, includes the integration of tram transport into the passenger transport system.

Kydyraliev also appealed to the city administration to provide data on the analysis conducted regarding the efficiency of tram usage and their performance.

Deputy Mayor Azamat Kadyrov responded that this is not about an outdated mode of transport, like traditional trams.

“We intend to introduce modern trams that use air cushion technology. This will allow for a quick start to their operation. One kilometer of monorail will require about 70-80 million soms, while for trams it will be only 15 million. We plan to allocate a special lane for trams to avoid conflicts with other types of public transport. Such transport is already successfully functioning in Arab countries, Korea, and several other countries,” he added.

Umbetaly Kydyraliev emphasized that the issue of traffic jams in the capital is particularly acute.

“It is necessary to consider transport issues not only from a financial perspective but also taking into account the rapid progress. In the next 10-15 years, wheeled transportation will become outdated. All transport should transition to air technologies; we should think about creating aerial cable cars and other modern transport solutions,” the deputy noted.
