Edil Baysalov, who holds the position of Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers, spoke about the transition to a 12-year education system in Kyrgyzstan in an interview for 24.kg.

He emphasized that one of the key tasks in the education sector is the reform of school education.

According to Baysalov, mistakes in the process are inevitable. “We cannot allow criticism to throw us off course. We will correct the shortcomings and continue to move forward,” he stated.

“There are numerous expected difficulties. People, do not think that when you criticize, it means we have done everything wrong. We have 1.5 million students, about 2.5 thousand schools, and approximately 100 thousand teachers. A complete change of methodology, textbooks, and lessons is a colossal reform. We were aware that this would not be easy and would be accompanied by serious problems. Nevertheless, we are confidently moving along this path,” he added.

The Deputy Chairman of the Cabinet of Ministers also expressed confidence that the results of the reform will only become evident in 15 years. “Until that moment, we must purposefully move forward. This will be a completely new nation, new children, a new society. By 2050, we will see a new generation of Kyrgyzstani citizens ready to compete on the international stage,” he noted.

It should be reminded that Kyrgyzstan is implementing a phased transition to 12-year education. In the 2025/2026 academic year, the new program will cover students in the 1st, 2nd, 5th, and 7th grades.

In 2026, more than one billion soms will be allocated for the implementation of the reform, which corresponds to similar expenditures from the previous year.

The full interview with Edil Baysalov will be published on February 3 at 14:00.
