As part of the event dedicated to Diplomatic Worker Day, Sergey Vakunov, the Russian ambassador to Kyrgyzstan, summarized the achievements of 2025 and discussed important areas for further cooperation between the countries.
The diplomat noted that 2025 became a significant milestone in Russian-Kyrgyz relations, as it marked the 25th anniversary of the signing of the Declaration of Eternal Friendship, which serves as the foundation for the strategic partnership between the two states. Cooperation has actively developed at various levels.
Preservation of Historical Memory
Vakunov emphasized the importance of historical memory. Important events dedicated to the 80th anniversary of Victory in the Great Patriotic War took place in Moscow and Bishkek. He stressed that attempts to revise common history and distort the contribution of the Soviet people have no future. The "Immortal Regiment" movement has become an important tool for preserving historical truth and passes the memory of Victory from generation to generation in Russia and Kyrgyzstan.
Economic Relations
In the field of economics, positive dynamics are observed. According to the National Statistical Committee of Kyrgyzstan, the volume of mutual trade already exceeds $3.1 billion. The ambassador expressed confidence that the countries are capable of fulfilling the tasks set by the presidents and increasing trade turnover to $5 billion through investments, new projects, and the development of production cooperation.
Plans for 2026
The year 2026 promises to be eventful. An important aspect will be Kyrgyzstan's chairmanship in the Shanghai Cooperation Organization, in which Russia is ready to provide full support. Key events include:
the 27th meeting of the Intergovernmental Commission in Kazan; the Russian-Kyrgyz business forum at Issyk-Kul; an interregional conference.
Importance of the Russian Language and Education
The Russian language, which is official in Kyrgyzstan, holds an important place. The ambassador believes that the absence of a language barrier contributes to strengthening ties and opens new opportunities for youth in terms of professional realization.
An important humanitarian project will be the construction of nine schools in Kyrgyzstan with instruction in Russian. The first three educational institutions are planned to open on September 1, 2027, in Bishkek, Karakol, and Batken. Russia will continue to assist Kyrgyz education, including the supply of adapted textbooks.
Trusting Relations and Migration
Sergey Vakunov noted that trusting relations have been established between Vladimir Putin and Sadyr Japarov, which facilitate active cooperation.
In the field of migration, Russia is interested in attracting qualified specialists while adhering to the laws. The ambassador also reminded that within the framework of the Eurasian Economic Union, the principle of "four freedoms" remains: citizens of Kyrgyzstan can work in Russia without a patent if they have an employment contract.
