Deputy of the Jogorku Kenesh, Tabyldy Muratbekov, has proposed an increase in drinking water tariffs in Kyrgyzstan. According to his estimates, the average price per cubic meter could rise by 14.38 soms, leading to a new cost of 36.99 soms.

The deputy's initiative is driven by the fact that the current tariffs, according to him, do not reflect the actual cost of water supply services. Water utilities are facing a shortage of funds, which prevents them from fully updating infrastructure, and in many regions, the networks continue to deteriorate.

Muratbekov emphasized that the proposed tariff increase is "insignificant" and should not provoke a negative reaction from citizens. The document related to the proposal includes a comparison with the bottled water market: one liter of which costs more than 25 soms, while even after the increase, the tariff for tap water will remain significantly lower.

In the parliamentarian's opinion, the increase in tariffs will allow for additional funds to be allocated for the modernization and repair of water supply networks, as well as ensure the reliable operation of water supply systems in both urban and rural areas.

The issue of raising water tariffs is being discussed in the context of preparing amendments to legislation and reforming the water supply system. A final decision will be made after analyzing proposals from government agencies and the parliament.
