The reaction of China to the recent U.S. initiative regarding arms supplies to Taiwan was voiced by an official representative of the country's Ministry of Foreign Affairs. He announced the introduction of countermeasures against 20 American defense companies and 10 of their executives.
In accordance with the PRC Law "On Counteracting Foreign Sanctions," Beijing decided to respond to Washington's actions, which announced large-scale arms supplies to Taiwan, providing weapons to the territory in recent years.
The representative of the Chinese foreign ministry noted: "The Taiwan issue represents one of China's key interests and is the first red line in relations between China and the U.S. that cannot be crossed."
He also added that any provocative actions regarding Taiwan will face a resolute response from China. "Companies and individuals involved in supplying weapons to Taiwan should be prepared for the consequences. No one should underestimate the determination and strength of the people and government of China in defending its national sovereignty and territorial integrity," the diplomat emphasized.
In conclusion, the representative of the Chinese Ministry of Foreign Affairs urged the U.S. to strictly adhere to the principle of "One China" and the three joint communiqués, as well as to fulfill the commitments made by American leaders. He urged Washington to cease dangerous armed actions that undermine peace and stability in the Taiwan Strait and not to send misleading signals to separatist forces fighting for "Taiwan independence." China will continue to actively defend its sovereignty, security, and territorial integrity.
