At a meeting of the parliamentary committee in Bishkek, Deputy Minister of Culture Marat Tagaev expressed concerns about possible resistance regarding the adoption of a bill that proposes adding subtitles in Kyrgyz to foreign films.
“Currently, we are actively working to ensure that foreign films are provided with subtitles in Kyrgyz. In the near future, we plan to make changes to the legislation; however, we may face opposition. Therefore, we ask the deputies for support,” he noted.
It is also worth mentioning that according to current legislation, the Ministry of Culture will oversee the content of television channels, which are required to provide at least 60% of programs in the Kyrgyz language.
